Underwater and Sunset in Fiji

Engagement Photography

Krystal and Jester had three requests when they came to me:
  • an underwater engagement session
  • a magical Fiji sunset
  • Spontaneity
For them, I created a high energy session showing colourful and contrasty poetic photographs.

Where in Fiji?

I helped pick out the most appropriate location: by Plantation resort in Malolo island (in the Mamanuca's islands) for the underwater session (45 minutes ferry from Nadi, Fiji, where it wasn’t too deep and where Jester would be comfortable with swimming). They were staying at the Hilton resort in Denerau. So, after Krystal had her make up done by the spa, we met to photograph at the beach by their room.

Tips for your photo shoot

For the underwater session we kept the look natural but Krystal purchased a couple of beautiful dresses with floaty material. For Jester I recommend a shirt that was a bit larger to give the sensation of movement. Krystal also had a couple of hair accessories. Her friend made her a beautiful crown of pearls. We avoided anything with glued decorations that could easily be damaged by sea salt water. I chose a very bright time of the day for the shoot so we could have good light (it is much darken under the water!). I gave them a few instructions but let them be themselves so that it would be genuine and spontaneous. They were calm and relaxed underwater which is key in underwater photography (I’m already used to it). Krystal and Jester were really composed and fun to photograph. I really enjoyed the two sessions with them. They returned compliments and told me that they loved the pictures of their pre nuptial photo shoot. Good luck to them as they get married next year on a beautiful beach in the Philippines!
